Meet Mrs. Smith
.
Our primary grades paraprofessional is Mrs. Kathy Smith.  Mrs. Smith has been working as a paraprofessional at Highland Elementary for the past 23 years.  The oldest of seven children, she is originally from Chicago.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have four children, Michael, Ryan, Bridget, and Anne.  Their family moved to Portland, Tennessee in the spring of1985.  Her husband, Michael, was the Chaplain and one of the bible teachers at Highland Academy for eighteen years.  Mr. Smith is currently the lay pastor of the Oasis Seventh-day Advenitst Church.

Mrs. Smith has several hobbies, including spending time with her family, enjoying her eleven-year old grandson, Tristyn, reading, walking, and being involved with the church.  Mr. and Mrs. Smith second grandchild was born in October of 2011.

Mrs. Smith has worked with each grade-level at Highland.  She has also been responsible for teaching our Expressways to Learning program for three years.  Mrs. Smith enjoys working with the teachers, students, family, and staff.  She receives a blessing watching the students grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.  Mrs. Smith is currently at home as she continues her courageous battle with cancer.
